Dr. Pillai is an honorary member of the Board of Directors of the Hindu Temple of Antelope Valley. He is closely associated with the Temple and gives monthly discourses on religious texts. He is currently speaking on Sri Sankaracharya’s text Vivekchudamani.

Dr. Pillai is the president of the Chinmaya Mission of Los Angeles and is on Board of Directors of the Chinmaya Mission West, the governing body of the Mission for the western hemisphere. Dr. Pillai is an ardent follower of His Holiness Swami Chinmayananda. He met Swamiji in 1979 and then spent many years traveling with him and learning the scriptures under his guidance. Dr. Pillai is a great exponent of Hindu religious texts and is a powerful speaker who can convey complex ideas in simple terms. His talks are punctuated by practical advice and great examples which carry the message home. Dr. Pillai is a practicing psychiatrist.
